The new Transparency International Corruption Perceptions Index 2022

Same procedure as every year: On 31 January 2023 the German NGO Transparency International published the latest Corruption Perceptions Index for the year 2022, once again covering 180 countries in the meanwhile 28th edition of this international compliance-management-tool.

While the key theme of stagnating efforts in the fight against corruption does not come as a surprise, TI´s emphasis on the role of “strategic corruption” as a means of foreign policy especially applied by authoritarian states is new.

The current TI CPI findings must be operationally incorporated into the Compliance Management Systems (“CMS”) of international corporates – and should also be used as a geographical risk indicator for the new human rights corporate due diligence obligations, especially in the first weeks after the new German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act became applicable.
