The EU Proposal for a Corporate Sustainability Directive in a nutshell

EU commission presents draft directive on corporate sustainability obligations

On 23 February 2022, the EU Commission presented the long-awaited but repeatedly postponed draft of an EU sustainability directive. The “EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive 2022/0051” continues the international trend towards intensified legislative initiatives on supply chain compliance and goes even further in terms of the scope of obligations and application thresholds than the German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act of 16 July 2021, which will already come into force on 1 January 2023. A large number of companies from all industrial sectors will thus have to prepare for new corporate obligations to respect human rights and environmental protection along global value chains.
