Taxonomy Regulation – Stricter sustainability requirements for real estate

On 21 April 2021, the European Commission released the technical screening criteria under the Taxonomy Regulation. These criteria lay out strict requirements on sustainability in the real estate sector, especially with regard to the environmental objectives of climate change mitigation and climate change adaptation. Most market participants in the real estate industry will, in an indirect manner at least, have to orient themselves to these new requirements.
