GSK Stockmann + Kollegen appoints nine partners from its own ranks

At their recent partner‘s meeting on 20 November 2015, GSK Stockmann + Kollegen appointed nine lawyers from its own ranks to partnership. With the appointment of five Equity Partner and four Local Partner to partnership, effective 1 January 2015, GSK strengthens its focus on businesses and selected sectors and at the same time significantly increases the number of female partners.

The partnership of GSK Stockmann + Kollegen decided to appoint Jennifer Bierly (Corporate/M&A, Berlin), Dr. Timo Patrick Bernau and Dr. Alma Franke (both Banking & Finance, Munich) as well as Monique Franke (Real Estate, Munich) and Dr. Volker Rebmann (Notary and Corporate, Frankfurt) to Equity Partnership effective 01.01.2016. Furthermore, Associates Dr. Jenny Mehlitz and Dr. Frank-Florian Seifert (both Projects & Public Sector, Berlin), Counsel Dennis Stenzel (Real Estate, Hamburg) and Birgit Wöhren (Dispute Resolution, Corporate, Hamburg) have been appointed Local Partner, also effective 01.01.2016.

“We congratulate all new Partners and are very happy to have been able to appoint five female and four male colleagues to Local and Equity Partnership this year, an visible increase on previous years”, says Oliver Glück, Co-Managing Partner at GSK Stockmann + Kollegen. “We are delighted that most of the new partners started their career with GSK and have now successfully made their way into partnership. This shows our capability of individual development and that we can grow from our own ranks.”

Olaf Schmechel, the other Co-Managing Partner at GSK, adds: “The appointments to partnership emphasize our consistent approach of linking special expertise in different legal fields with GSK’s industry know-how. All new partners are characterised by profound knowledge and proven success, not only in national but also in cross-border projects. This is the ideal foundation for intensifying our international cooperation with Broadlaw Group partner law firms via connected practice and sector groups.”

With the appointment of Jennifer Bierly and Volker Rebmann to Corporate Partners, the firm not only strengthens its corporate and M&A practice but also focusses on sectors such as Automotive & Mobility, Financial Services Provider/Issuing Companies and Energy & Infrastructure as well as the interfaces between Corporate, Real Estate and Financial Supervisory Law. Volker Rebmann also acts as notary.

In the Real Estate Sector new partners Monique Franke and Dennis Stenzel stand for successful real estate transactions – Monique Franke with her specialisation in the Retail Sector and Dennis Stenzel at the interface of Real Estate and Investment Law. With this area currently in strong demand, GSK aims to take advantage of positioning one of the biggest real estate teams of all German law firms to further drive an even higher market penetration.

With the appointment of Alma Franke (Finance, with a focus on complex real estate financings, incl. in the Hotel/Leisure Sector) and Timo Patrick Bernau (Financial Supervisory Law with focus on alternative funds- and capital investments- as well as Crowd Funding/Crowd Lending Products and Capital Markets Law) as Equity Partners, GSK continues growing the Banking & Finance Sector from its own ranks, as in recent years. The appointments to partnership demonstrate the positive development and success which GSK has recently had in the Banking & Finance Sector and which also led to the 2015 JUVE nomination as law firm of the year for Banking & Capital Markets.

Two further partnership appointments were made within the new GSK-Sector Projects & Public Sector: Jenny Mehlitz (Procurement Law with focus on the Real Estate Industry and Public Authorities) and Frank-Florian Seifert (Public Planning and Building Laws with focus on Project Development, currently prevailing in the Residential Sector). At the partners’ meeting the partnership has also decided to merge the groups “Project Development/Construction” with “Public Law” to form the new Practice Area “Projects & Public Sector” comprising 40 professionals.

“With the organisational merger we are able to create even larger synergies, since public law and private construction law are tightly connected in complex project developments”, says Mark Butt, Head of the Projects & Public Sector. “We are convinced that with integration and growing communication further potential can be realised.”

With the appointment of Birgit Wöhren as Local Partner, GSK Stockmann + Kollegen emphasises its aim to further strengthen the Dispute Resolution practice. “The development and interconnection of the practice group Dispute Resolution are progressing constantly, and the team will be further expanded by new hires. With this background, we are very happy that Birgit Wöhren strengthens the group as Local Partner and will play a key role in the future development. The growing significance is especially reflected in international transactions. Here we are well-positioned and see great potential in advising our Broadlaw Group-Clients”, says Justus Jansen, Head of the Practice Group Dispute Resolution.
