Dr. Tobias Riethmüller, FinTech expert of the first hour, returns to GSK Stockmann as Partner

GSK Stockmann is making another important step forward in expanding its FinTech and LegalTech advisory practice. Dr. Tobias Riethmüller (39), one of the FinTech experts in digital financing models of the first hour, has returned to GSK Stockmann as Equity Partner as of January 1, 2019. He previously worked at the Frankfurt GSK office until August 2015 when he switched to Schiedermair Rechtsanwälte.

Tobias Riethmüller is a lawyer and also has a degree in economics. He advises clients on all phases of developing a company, on corporate and capital market law as well as on corporate and project financing. He is particularly experienced and therefore has strong expertise in the legal structuring of digital financing platforms and standardized issuance models. Since 2008, he has advised more than 40 German and international digital financing platforms on structuring models based on equity capital, venture capital and securities. The German Bundestag commissioned him as an expert for regulation plans in this field in 2015 and 2018. In his work for financing platforms, he also covers the designing of IT processes under supervisory law compliance and automation of database-supported contract processing.

„We are very happy that Tobias Riethmüller is returning to GSK Stockmann. His FinTech and Leal Tech expertise will significantly contribute to broadening our competences in the field of bank-independent financing models in supervisory and capital market law,” Max Wilmanns, Head of the Area Corporate at GSK Stockmann, commented. “There is also substantial cross-selling potential here for the Banking/Finance and IT/data protection colleagues and for the Luxembourg office. And on top of that, Tobias Riethmüller is also qualified to support us in our own LegalTech projects.”

Mr. Riethmüller set his advisory focus on the FinTech sector, especially in digital investment brokerage, LegalTech/Legal Engineering and PropTech, new industry fields GSK Stockmann is very interested in. As he is closely connected with the industry in his role as legal adviser of the German Crowdfunding Association (BVCF) and as founding member of the German Crowdfunding Network (GCN), Tobias Riethmüller is always involved in regulatory changes and current market developments. “I am very happy to be back at GSK Stockmann and to be able to benefit directly from the know-how on supervisory law,” said Tobias Riethmüller. “I stayed in touch with GSK Stockmann throughout the past three years and continuously worked with former supervisory law colleagues, including from Luxembourg.”

Thanks to his network, Tobias Riethmüller enjoys direct access to innovative advisory fields such as platforms for crypto-assets and token emissions. “We can now cater to these new advisory fields even better than before as they are becoming increasingly complex, more international and digital, especially the fields of supervisory and capital market law,” says Timo Patrick Bernau, banking law Partner and FinTech specialist at GSK Stockmann.

For GSK Stockmann, Tobias Riethmüller’s network access offers growth potential in diverse areas. This is especially true for adding new clients to the network wishing to benefit from the innovation competence of FinTechs as well as for a stronger incorporation of securitization models and structured financing in cooperation with the GSK Stockmann Luxembourg office. The Area Corporate is going to benefit from Tobias Riethmüller’s expertise in particular regarding the issuance of capital market instruments in the EC, VC and mezzanine area and the legal and economic structuring of standardized issuance models – including in the VC area.

Along with Mr. Riethmüller, Ms. Kathrin Müller is also joining GSK as an Associate and lawyer specializing in supervisory and capital market law. With these two new additions, the Area Corporate has now grown to a total of 20 Equity Partners, 8 Local Partners and 32 Associates.
