GSK Stockmann appoints industry expert Ralf Brenner to investment law practice

GSK Stockmann has reinforced its consultancy for the funds sector with investment law specialist Ralf Brenner (50). He joined GSK Stockmann’s Munich office on 1 February 2021.

Ralf Brenner is a banker and lawyer and has worked as head of a legal department and compliance and money laundering officer since 2006. He has also been a managing director at Société Générale Securities Services GmbH since the beginning of 2018.

Ralf Brenner specialises in advising on the regulation of open-ended securities funds and the Geman so-called Master-KVG business. In his 20 years of experience as an in-house expert, head of team as well as head of department within legal and tax divisions of asset management firms, he has gained extensive experience in advising and implementing regulatory issues, in particular under the German Investment Code for Investment Management (KAGB), the German Banking Act (KWG) and the German Securities Trading Act (WpHG), including responsibility for the establishment, re-licensing and takeover of asset management firms (M&A). In addition, Ralf Brenner has supported many outsourcing projects as well as the market entry of foreign asset managers into the German market.

Ralf Brenner has joined GSK Stockmann as a Local Partner with effect from 1 February 2021. He will contribute his professional expertise to the funds sector and advise providers in the area of securities funds on regulatory issues as well as in the outsourcing area. Furthermore, he will support foreign asset managers, in particular in the Master-KVG business.

“We are delighted that Ralf Brenner has joined our firm,” said Robert Kramer, spokesman for the Banking & Finance division at GSK Stockmann. “We are gaining a highly qualified lateral hire from the KVG practice related to securities with excellent connections in the industry, with whom our firm can excellently expand its range of advisory services in the funds sector in terms of the asset class of securities.”

Regarding the new cooperation, Ralf Brenner said, “GSK Stockmann has delivered an excellent performance over the last few years. I am looking forward to being able to expand the scope of the firm’s advisory services, including the area of securities funds, in this dynamic environment. In doing so, I appreciate the many interfaces with banking supervisory law, corporate law and compensation law. By adding this expertise, we will be able to offer even more advisory services regarding the funds sector in the future. I really look forward to working with many well-known colleagues. In this area, a great deal of work will await us, and not only after the Corona crisis has been overcome; at European level, adjustments to PRIIPS, ELTIF and also the review of the AIFMD are pending. Locally, the Fund Location Act as well as the Act on the Introduction of Electronic Securities (eWpG) will be the first areas of consultation.”

After Ralf Brenner joined the firm, GSK Stockmann’s fund law practice now comprises 32 lawyers.
